EduPills: Self-training educational pills for mobile devices/Spain

Introduction & Contextualization

As we are in the digital age, it is common to see students and people in general using the mobile and new technologies at recess and leisure time. The use of these technologies is commonly used to play, talk with friends, listen to music, leaving in the background its use to learn, find information, acquire cultural capital, ..

This is so, largely because whenever these technologies are used they are rewards or we let them be used in leisure time. That is why the need to include them in schools appears, always respecting the stages of the child’s development (up to 3 years it is better that they do not use any type of screen, and until 9 is advised against), so that students can learn to use technologies for things of greater utility from younger people instead of relating technology with leisure, games and series.

To be able to teach students to use new technologies, it is first necessary to train teachers, so that they are able to understand the doubts that students may have, and know how to help them, then here in Spain we find an example in which some Teachers have developed a platform in the form of a free application in the Google store. Which allows teachers to acquire and encourage their own digital skills and competencies.

The app, to get real the innovation proyect

This implements learning from the mobile and with new technologies and is available in English and Spanish. It is a continuous learning that allows you to have a constant training and be able to always be with the necessary training to be able to teach your students to understand and better use the greatest number of possibilities (infites) offered by the digital era.

Regarding teacher training, the most innovative change is based on the fact that, thanks to its flexible characteristics, it allows it to be formed, at any time (duration) and in any place that it wants. The pills are categorised according to the Five Areas of the Common Digital Competence Framework for Teachers 40 by INTEF (the Spanish National Institute of Technological Activities and Teachers’ Training), thus giving users the choice when deciding which competence they need to work on and allowing them to manage their self-training.

The application is based on a Content Management System (CMS) developed using open source technology, where the smart pills are created, stored and shared under a shared code 41. In addition to the fact that the application is free, that means that although it is designed for teachers, anyone interested in it, father, child, student can download it and use it to learn

My opinion.

In my view, the creation of this application is something very useful and necessary in the current school, since we are in that moment of transition from one era to another, where there is a large number of teachers, who do not have enough training and acquisition of the digital skills necessary to be able to educate, help and teach the correct use of them to their students. seeing on numerous occasions the use of these technologies as something negative, punished and feared by teachers. If we know that students like their use, and that they have many possibilities of using these tools, teachers should think about how to use them so that students can get the most out of their students.

That is why it seems fundamental and crucial that this application is designed for teachers who do not have these digital skills and it seems good that it is free, because in my view, education, training and digital information should be free or at least as cheap as possible, so that it can reach the maximum number of people.

What do you think?

Finally, I would like to know your opinion about the use of mobile phones in schools, about the importance of training teachers in digital skills and about you future teachers will be those who are in favor or against the use of these technologies.
